Benway’s Adult Transitions Program

“The child that is actually left behind is the one who leaves school without preparation for transition.”  -Dr. Louis Fulton

Benway’s Adult Transitions Program

This program was designed to empower postgraduate youth, aged 18-21, with the skills, goals, and choices they need for a productive life in their community. The curriculum for this program encompasses the management of three areas: personal, career, and life. Benway’s transition program achieves this through Community Based Instruction, vocational/shared time programs, resume building, job searching assistance, job sampling, and college and vocational assistance. Our program follows New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standard 9, which focuses on Career Ready Practices. We also use the James Stanfield's, "The Transitions's Curriculum" as a resource. Through this knowledge base, we create lessons that focus on Project Based Learning and Community Based Instruction.

The Benway Adult Transitions program is equipped to serve students with mild/moderate cognitive impairment, Asperger’s syndrome, and multiple disability. Emotionally disturbed students, youth with attention deficit difficulties, mild TBI or physical limitations can all participate in our transitions program as well.
